This course will use existing knowledge of English to practice independent thinking and build confidence to expand conversation. This will cover various topics and cultural differences.

Knowledge/Understanding: Students will learn common English patterns to continue a conversation beyond a simple question and answer format (primarily through reading and listening).

Skill/Performance: Students will be able to understand and infer various types of question and be prepared to give contextual information beyond explicit requests. Students will also learn to make their conversations efficient by listening for general and specific vocabulary (primarily through listening and speaking).

Thinking/Judgment: Students will compare and contrast English language and culture to Japanese language culture.

Interest/Attitude: Students will be able to confidently navigate many different daily situations feel prepared to communicate with foreigners.

Performance will be assessed through a combination of the following: attendance (no more than 5 absences), in-class participation, attitude towards English use, homework/projects, tests.
