授業概要
In this class students researches more in depth some aspect of music performance that are critical to musical excellence: how to minimize Stage Fright, how to develop the optimal strategy for Daily Instrumental Practice and how to gain better understanding of concert venue acoustics. With the aid of the teacher, and the analysis of the most relevant and recent scientific studies, students attain new insights into major aspects of music performance.
到達目標
1) Knowledge and understanding. Students are encouraged to develop the ability to explore diversity in music.
2) Attitude and interest, positive thinking. The students’ Communications Skills are addressed through their expression of informed opinions, researched ideas, and visual or musical presentations.
3) Technique and expression. The Active Learning techniques used at this class improve creative thinking, innovation, analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information.
4) Self evaluation and judgement. Every student is motivated to find a better awareness of the own possibilities as performing musician. Evaluation is obtained trough written assignments and quizzes, and video contributions.

【1】Project 4: Psychology of Music Performance. Since classical music performers engage in a long-term memory activity tied to a fine motor action, an explanation of the underlying mechanisms. Introduction and group discussion. 
【2】Mistakes and memory retrieval. Serial chaining of musical information and management of error prediction.Group discussion and evaluation.Study of scientific material provided by the teacher.
【3】Evaluation of the strategies error prediction. Influence of body tension on timing inaccuracies. Seek of common points from different strategies.Group discussion and evaluation.Elaboration of scientific material provided by the teacher.
【4】Outline of a simple and clear strategy to cope with Psychology of Music Performance. Group discussion and evaluation. Revision of results and elaboration of a script.
【5】Project 5: Emotional power of music. Explanation how music elicits strong feelings but only generates emotions through extramusical associations.Group discussion and evaluation. Study of scientific material provided by the teacher.
【6】Examination of formal attributes of music, correlated to specific emotional experiences. Definition of terms like “happy mood” or “vigorous, dignified” and similar, tied to music passages.Group discussion and evaluation. Elaboration of scientific material provided by the teacher.
【7】Relationship between laws of physics and harmonic tension of music. Tonic-dominant patterns and major-minor tension builds.Group discussion and evaluation.Elaboration of scientific material provided by the teacher.

【9】Project 6: Exploration of recommendations for maximal effectiveness of expression during music performance. Influence of dynamics of strong or weak beats.Group discussion and evaluation.  
【10】Effectivity of masking effect on “subito piano” music effects. Inversion of climax, enhancement of syncopations.Group discussion and evaluation. 
【11】Evaluation of hesitations before dissonances, emphasize of grace notes, effect of repeated notes.Group discussion and evaluation. 
【12】Creation of “mystery” mood through reduced dynamics and similar effective techniques. Group discussion and evaluation. 
【13】Development of creative imagination, how to catch the audience’s attention and how to keep tension high.Group discussion and evaluation. 
【14】Practical demonstration in Murasaki Hall of the psychological and musical techniques described in the project.Group discussion. 
【15】Review of the three past projects. Analysis of effectivity of the studied techniques, and eventual revision of the strategies.Group discussion. 
評価方法
Grading is based off of 50% attendance, 25% in-class assignments and 25% peer evaluations and group projects.
Feedback is provided through a アンケート in Google Classroom.
